The spine or vertebral column is comprised of 33 bones called vertebrae (or vertebral segments in the case of the sacrum) that are organized into five regions identified as:

• Cervical

• Thoracic

• Lumbar

• Sacral

• Coccygeal

The 24 individual vertebrae of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar regions contribute to the movements of the spine.
