External ear

The external ear is the outer and visible part of the ear conducting the sound to the middle ear.

It consists of three parts:

  • Auricle

  • External acoustic meatus

  • Tympanic membrane (its outer or lateral surface)

The first two structures of the external ear participate in concentrating, amplifying, and conducting sound vibrations to the tympanic membrane. From there, the sound vibrations further go to the middle ear and then to the inner ear.
