Blood supply of the jejunum and ileum (part 1)

The main arterial supply of the jejunum and ileum is provided by the superior mesenteric artery and its branches (jejunal branches, ileal branches).


These branches anastomose forming loops known as the arterial arcades with terminal vasa recta or straight branches. It should be noted that a double row of arcades supplies the ileum (seen in the next slide).
